ibtidaa yah thii ki jiinaa thaa muhabbat mein muhaal
intihaa yah hai ki ab marnaa bhii mushkil ho gayaa
~ Jigar Muradabadi

At the outset, love made it difficult to live
Finally, love has made it difficult to even die

NB When love blossoms afresh, one cannot spend even one moment away from one's beloved. Life seems impossibly beautiful and there is a surfeit of happiness.

Alas, love is subject to the ebb and flow of life. Some relationships are strong enough to withstand this. Others fall apart. For the latter, the once shining beacon of love turns into a charred stump of gloom and indifference. In such a situation, living with with the person who was once the object of one's deepest love and passion, seems utterly impossible. The one who was the epitome of all the beauty and glamour and fun in the world seems like an utterly drab, dull and dreary person. And yet the couple clings on, living on hope and nostalgia.

Doen't it tell us something about the predicament of human life, that people clutch at straws not realising that worldly relationships come with an expiry date?

Those who are wise in the ways of the world seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Those who exist on a higher plane of consciousness realise that instability is the basic nature of the temporal world. They know that attaining oneness with the highest self results in lasting bliss. They focus inwards.
